What is easySTP?

easySTP is an innovative sewage treatment process introduced by Indus Ecowater in India. This advanced method is designed for use in both pre-fabricated and civil construction-based sewage processing plant.

Why Choose easySTP Over MBBR and SBR?

easySTP stands out from MBBR and SBR by utilizing 90% anaerobic bacteria, which do not require oxygen to break down organic matter, unlike MBBR and SBR that rely solely on aerobic bacteria and thus need significant amounts of oxygen. This results in easySTP demanding only 10% of the air blower capacity required by MBBR or SBR, leading to a substantial reduction in oxygen requirements. Consequently, easySTP consumes just 10% of the power used by MBBR or SBR systems of the same capacity, achieving an impressive 90% savings in power costs.

What are the operating costs for an STP?

The operating costs for a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) vary by capacity. For an STP with a capacity of 75KLD or more, the cost is about 1.2 paise per litre of sewage treated. For STPs with a capacity of 50KLD or less, the cost rises to around 1.5 paise per litre. These figures exclude personnel expenses. Reputable companies charge approximately Rs. 60,000 per month for operation and maintenance (O&M) services, employing well-trained operators. Less established agencies might charge between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000, but their personnel may lack proper training.

What are the DOs and DON’Ts for sewage treatment plants?

For sewage treatment plants (STPs), it’s crucial to install them above ground to ensure proper air circulation and facilitate easy maintenance. Do not place STPs in basements, as this complicates maintenance, sludge handling, and repairs, making it a nightmare for the operation and maintenance team. Additionally, proper documentation is essential. Builders should provide all necessary documents, including as-built drawings, technical specifications, and details of all installed equipment. This documentation is vital for effective maintenance and repairs, preventing significant issues due to a lack of information. Builders should prioritize these guidelines to ensure the long-term functionality and ease of maintenance for residents.

Should I use a Septic Tank or a Sewage Treatment Plant?

The choice depends on your location and how you plan to disperse the treated water. If you’re discharging to surface waters, you’ll need a sewage treatment plant that meets environmental standards. Septic tanks aren’t allowed for this purpose. For a soak away system, a septic tank is usually fine, but sometimes a sewage treatment plant is required. It’s best to check with your local environmental agency for specific regulations.
